A beautiful seven-story brick and limestone apartment building fronting Lincoln Park is threatened with demolition following a potential sale to a developer.
The building, located at 325 W. Fullerton Parkway, is flanked by two fine quality buildings, one the Orange-rated Aztec Apartments and the other an early Benjamin Marshall design, would be severely impacted by the rumored plans, which would include the demolition of the 325 building and the sale and use of air rights of those two neighbors to construct an approximately 30-story building.
Preservation Chicago is now working with Alderman Michelle Smith and the neighbors along Lincoln Park West, Fullerton, Commonwealth and Belden to consider a local Chicago Landmark District that would protect this important historic street wall overlooking Lincoln Park and the lakefront.
The area is largely comprised of many vintage apartment buildings and rowhouses that give it its distinctive scale and widespread loss would be devastating.
We’ll provide updates as the situation evolves.
