A church on the border of Bucktown and Logan Square is in danger of demolition and could be sold for redevelopment soon unless First Ward Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno decides against an up-zoning on the site.
Preservation Chicago has been in talks to reuse the historic church at 2442 W. Moffat, by Landmark Architect Hermann Gaul and originally home to a German congregation. The church is in a high state of preservation with all of its original F. X. Zeitler of Munich, Germany, stained glass windows.
The church has been for sale and while multiple re-use scenarios were possible which would have included necessary repairs to the front facade, however developers are willing to pay more for the site near the Western Avenue Blue Line stop and a short distance from the 606/Bloomingdale Trail, if an up-zoning is granted.
Email Ald. Moreno at email@example.com and ask him not to grant an up-zoning to facilitate the demolition of a historic church.
