Despite the efforts of Preservation Chicago and the Chicago preservation community, the following buildings have been lost to demolition. In their memory, we find the renewed strength to advocate for the many actively threated historic buildings.
Prentice Women’s Hospital Prentice Women’s Hospital was groundbreaking for its cutting-edge cantilevered concrete design, advanced engineering and its progressive plan for the organization of medical departments and services. This amazing masterwork was demolished in 2014 after a hard fought preservation battle to save it. Prentice, designed by Chicago architect Bertrand Goldberg and completed in 1975, was a Preservation Chicago’s 7 Most Endangered in 2010 and 2013 again this year.
